Since we last featured Charles Guthrie, he’s been a busy! He’s posted a slew of new work/explorations on his website, he’s been focused on independent publishings and, of course, pushing creative limits. This Richmond, VA local also has a blog on tubllr that he’d be pleased for you to check out.
Ana Paula Caldas is a graphic designer from Brazil. We received an email from her earlier to day, but don’t know much about her. Ana’s stuff is pretty awesome though. Most of her work plays around with typography and light, and her images are rather vintage futuristic. Check it out!
James Kirkups is a 21 year old graphic designer, and he already has a portfolio bursting with great works. Kirkups’ geometric designs work so well because he’s great with simple colors. His posters are clean and effective, I find them to be striking in their simplicity. I can’t wait to see what else comes out of this young prodigy.
Tim Lahan is a New York based illustrator and designer who happened to float to the surface in our Flickr pool. His fun retro-style of work does exactly what he wants by communicating visually in a simple and fun way. Keep the fun coming Lahan, we love it!
From illustrator and photographer Matt Lee, here are some photos of film posters around South India. It’s interesting how foreign film industries so close follow American trends. I expected to see posters that are more in the style of traditional 70s Bollywood posters (basically nicely illustrated montages of multiple characters, each in an action pose, and a cool look treatment of the title), but it seems that just as Hollywood has moved on since its days of ornately illustrated movie posters, so has India. So instead of illustrations we have Photoshop jobs.
NoLoveLost, aka Gareth Rice, is an artist, designer, and illustrator based out of New Zealand. His work has been used and featured in print advertising, editorial design, and campaigns for K-Swiss, Oakley, and Redken. His graphics are energetic, and I like how his illustrations organically meld with the photographs they are incorporated with. The above artwork is part of a new series intended to “give human based subjects a flawed final resolve, rather than a perfect one, which is so common in our industry.” Whether his illustrations are for a shoe company or for himself, you’ll find yourself doing a double take, just to grasp everything going on.
