Kseniya Simonova’s Sand Painting

Speaking of art and sand…here’s an awesome video of the day. Kseniya Simonova is a 24 year old sand animator from Ukraine who began her rise to Ukraine’s Got Talent fame when her business collapsed. She’d been drawing for only less than a year when she entered the contest with her piece (animated portrayal of life during the USSR’s Great Patriotic War against the Third Reich in World War II) and won earlier this year. I guess we at B/D will just leave the granulated stone masterpieces to the pros.

  • It’s a brilliant work of art. Not only does she alter light with the sand, she is an incredible story teller and animator. Her set “studio” was an excellent setup and her use of the candle at the beginning and end of the creation was like the opening and closing of a book. I look forward to seeing much more of Kseniya Simonova‚Äôs stories and artwork. Marshall Kregel, Oct. 2009

An awe-inspiring use of natural raw talent used with such ease and flow to create a very moving account of her country’s plight during the Great War. This video uses modern day technology to allow millions to enjoy one artist’s extraordinary vision using her fingers only. The lighting of the candle to set the mood accompanied by background music & dialogue is very dramatic. I would love to hear an English translation. Her work cannot be copied, printed or collected yet the interest appeal is bound to draw worldwide acclaim. Congratulations on setting a new world standard of creative genius. I look forward to seeing more of Kseniya Simonova’s work.
